It is the year 2065, food production and distribution to the world hungry still presses on nations to be solved. A large global aquiculture enterprise has promised to contribute 20% of its production to aid in meeting the needs of the world hungry. The entity has developed expansive mobile fish farms that float in international waters. You are given a complex set of circumstances for the company and world leaders. What challenges do you foresee? How can you solve them? What is your best solution?
2010 Global Issues Problem Solving Challenge - Food Distribution
Students identified as Gifted and Talented in any academic area have the opportunity to participate in the Future Problem Solvers Program at Highland Park. Students spend approximately one class period (45 minutes to one hour) per week learning creative problem solving skills and strategies, and applying these to a broad variety of topics through team problem-solving. Fourth and fifth grade students will explore topics in the Texas Global Issues competitive problem solving program such as Food Distribution, Air Transport, Genetic Testing, and Water Quality. Second and third grade students will problem solve topics through literature such as fairy tales and tall tales as well as relevant topics from grade level science and social studies curriculum.
Highland Park's FPS program is a component of the Texas Future Problem Solving Program sponsored by TEA and Austin ISD. Texas FPSP is an affiliate of the International Future Problem Solving Program.
